- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2012I'll start with the "negatives", if you could consider them as such. The cable is bulky and heavy. The thick rubber shielding makes coiling and running these a bit cumbersome at times. The weight can also be a problem if you don't have sufficient support for them. Don't dangle them off the end of a speaker 6 feet up without some support. I also wish they had a longer version. 25' isn't enough for rear surround units sometimes, and those are the speakers that need the best shielded cables.
Now for the good stuff: these cables are extremely well shielded, and I've had no problems with them breaking, bending or any similar thing. When they came I was surprised how well constructed they were for the price. I've seen cables costing ten times this that didn't look as good. They fit well in my main receiver, and whilst the banana plugs don't fit 100% snuggly into a speaker, if you pull the lip of the cable back a little, and screw down the post, in combination with suitable cable support, which you should be doing anyway, they hang tight with no problems. I have a large amount of electronic equipment, and I've had zero problems with interference. They will have a tendency to increase the depth of your receiver configuration as the study plugs poke a good ways out of the rear of the receiver. With my receiver, 24" of depth to accommodate the configuration is a good idea. If you have tight spaces, these aren't going to work for you.
Also, many smaller speakers simply don't have banana plug connectors, check your speakers before you buy the cables, as you might be surprised, I know I was!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2012I had these cables running to Polk Audio RTi8's, Monitor 70's, RTi A3's, RTi6's and CSi A6 center channel speakers hooked to a Yamaha RX-V765 and RX-V567 recievers.
The banana plugs felt tight and secure the first time I plugged them in, however, after the first use they are not nearly as tight. I was listening to a CD when suddenly one speaker quit and wiggling the banana plug made the sound come back. This has happened on two of the six cables I purchased.
These cables seem well made but the banana plug needs to be changed to insure a good connection. I will be replacing the banana plugs on these cables.
I now make my own cables using GLS 12AWG speaker wire and Sewell Deadbolt Banana Plugs with Fast-Lock Technology and now have good cable with a secure connection.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2014These C2G banana speaker cables are more like a split (cross) tip rather than a flared barrel like the other more traditional banana plugs. There is nothing wrong with this style but they may eventually get loose, if heavily exercised. If left in place it should be fine as long as there is no real strain pulling at the connections. I also have the (15 ft.) Silverback Speaker Wire by Sewell and there is a remarkable difference in the wire thickness. Both "claim to be 12 AWG but the Silverback is visibly better quality and have thicker gauge copper conductors. Granted, these C2G have a (very) thick outer casing that makes them bulky but does little for performance. I would guess these have maybe a 14 AWG - being generous here.
Unfortunately, the Silverback recently raised their prices across the board for all lengths but if you are serious about quality and want 12 AWG wire, go Silverback and spend a few extra bucks. They may even raise their prices again since they are popular, have better ratings and especially with the price of copper. These C2G are priced right for what you get – Made in China quality and questionable specifications. The Silverbacks are also made in China but made to a higher price point. Obviously, Made in USA versions can and will be in the $100’s for comparable specifications and quality on par with the Silverbacks, so good luck.
One last thing, if you care about your audio, spend a few extra dollars and get 100% oxygen free copper (OFC) cables (which both these and the Sewell Silverbacks are). There are tests that conclude that 100% OFC cables do make a "slight" improvement in not restricting the signal from your amplifier to your speakers like copper clad aluminum (CCA) - especially for longer lengths. Thanks for taking the time to read my review.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2011i purchased this cable direct from the manufacturer, cablestogo.com, 3 yrs ago. hooked it up to a yamaha 5.1 (rx-v530 i believe it was). i was so amazed by the dynamic range and sound quality i got from the 2 $20 dollar cables i purchased, this yr i upgraded to a 7.1 yamaha rx-v765 and connected all 7 ports with one of these velocity brand 12 awg gauge spkr cables. remarkable sound once again, my recent starwars blurays are simply astounding! if you are hesistating about this cable, do not, it is worth every penny! dont be ripped off by ridiculous, overpriced monster brands and the like. 12 gauge is 12 gauge and most importantly besides thick wires, you need gold plating for maximum signal capacity and no distortion. you get that with these velocity cables without being "robbed at the bank". treat your hi-fi stereo components with tlc, get these cables now! you will be glad you did. --note: for all you newbies to the hi-fi world, make sure you enable the MAX dynamic range option on your high end reciever (such as a yamaha rx-v series, personally recommended) to take full advantage of the sonic capabilities of these spkr cables!--
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2013The banana plugs are useless, since they do not stay in the binding posts. In other words, THEY FALL OUT!! They seem to be of very soft metal and after a while they bent to a shape that does not stay in. I had to remove them and replace with real banana plugs.
