Audioquest Type 4 Speaker Cables Stereophile Recommended and a Great Budget Cable A Stereophile- recommended cable, at this price? Absolutely! We could dazzle you with fancy acronyms like LGC, SST or FYI, but one listen will reveal why this cable, like so many AudioQuest cables, has been on Stereophile ’s recommended list for years. Type 4 has much greater resolution, rhythmic swing and musicality than any cable at this price point should be allowed to have! Highly Recommended! Audioquest cables are legendary in audiophile circles for their neutrality and resolution. For 28 years, Audioquest has worked tirelessly to achieve sonic neutrality in all their cables, regardless of price. Ensuring that music flows unchanged and uncolored requires removing the myriad distortions that occur when a signal flows through a cable. To accomplish this, Audioquest bypassed conventional cable design and focused their efforts on both the physical properties and sonic characteristics of the conductors and connectors, as well as every other material used in the creation of their cables.
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

You are paying lots of money for wire thinner than a decent $10 power extension cord (it’s only around 15awg). And physics dictates that these don’t have any magic geometry or magic copper formulation that will affect audio. Audioquest is one of the worst mass market cable snake oil companies.

I've been using AQ Type 4 for many years. It has always been good with my main speakers, and it has been my go to cable. The appearance has changed a few times over the years, but the blue color and core have stayed fairly the same. The core consists of 4 twisted wires, two 17 AWG and two 20 AWG. Recently, while shuffling through the back of my entertainment system I accidentally touched the wires after a long period of listening, and it was so hot, it almost burned the top of my hand. I was curious to see what is the actual gauge of Type4 wires, so I did calculate the area of 17 and 20 strands and added them up, and it came up to be equivalent to a single 15.3 gauge cable. I understand the benefits of using multiple isolated strands to send the signal for more clear sound, but 15.3 AWG is on the narrow side of the wire thickness spectrum, specially for less sensitive and lower ohm speakers. Rocket 33, and even X2, in comparison are both 14 gauge! I plan to upgrade my AQ Type4 cables to WireWorld Oasis 8 (11AWG) later which also incorporates the isolated strands.
Here's the math (Area = pi * radius^2):
17 AWG, diameter = 0.04526 in, radius R17 = 0.02263 in 20 AWG, diameter = 0.03196 in, radius R20 = 0.01598 in
Type4 radius R = sqrt( R17^2 + R20^2) = sqrt (0.000512+0.000255) = 0.027695 Type4 diameter D = 2 * R = 0.05539
My components thus far (will update review as soon as I add my tv): Yamaha CD-S2100, Yamaha AS-2100, Yamaha CX-A5100 and KEF LS50 mini monitor speakers using AudioQuest Big Sur RCA-RCA Interconnects. Previously I had been using Monster Platinum XP speaker wire. As good as those were, the AudioQuest Type 4 speaker cables take things to a whole new level with my equipment. With the Monster speaker wire, there was a noticeable artificial loudness to my music when it played, especially when I was listening to live performances. With these speakers, that loudness has dropped away and there is a greater depth to the music that I can appreciate. I hope that makes sense. Instruments like drums and percussion stand out, but not in such a way to crowd out other elements. Everything just seems much cleaner, that is the best way to explain it from my perspective. I can't promise that these will enhance your listening experience as they did for me, but should they be the right fit for your gear, you will definitely be pleased with the purchase and your enjoyment of music.
Running these with my DALI Zensor 3's and couldn't be happier. With previous wire my speakers were throwing static when amp was turned on. I purchased these with the hope that shielding of wire would help and yes they have, no more static! Improved lows for these speakers as well. Happy with purchase.
Quality. Is very good I m very satisfied with the overall performance that these cables are producing the highs are sharp and the mids are smooth the bass is deep if you are considering upgrading your speaker cables put them on your shopping list you will not be disappointed
